Varanasi Couple Confesses to Murdering 9-Year-Old Nephew Over Childless Taunts
In a shocking case from Varanasi, a couple has been arrested for the brutal murder of their 9-year-old nephew. The joint operation by Sahatwar police, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, and the surveillance cell led to the arrest of Ganesh Prajapati and his wife, Amrita Devi, on Saturday.
Gruesome Crime Unfolds Over Family Dispute
The investigation revealed that the couple killed young Abhishek Prajapati on January 25th. According to police statements, the motive stemmed from persistent taunts by Abhishek's mother, who allegedly mocked Amrita Devi for being childless. This constant humiliation reportedly pushed the couple to plan and execute the horrific crime.
Ballia's ASP (North) Dinesh Kumar Shukla detailed the sequence of events: Ganesh Prajapati, a resident of Singhi village under Sahatwar police station, initially filed a missing person report on January 25th. He claimed his nephew Abhishek, who was playing near his house, had disappeared. Despite extensive search efforts by local authorities, the boy remained untraceable for nearly a week.
Body Discovery and Investigation Breakthrough
The tragic discovery came on January 31st when Abhishek's body was recovered from a dam on the Ghaghra river. This development prompted authorities to escalate the investigation, engaging specialized SWAT and surveillance teams alongside the Sahatwar police force.
During meticulous evidence collection, including analysis of call records and witness statements, investigators uncovered the involvement of Ganesh and Amrita. The evidence pointed decisively toward the couple, leading to their arrest on Saturday.
Chilling Confession Reveals Methodical Planning
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to murdering Abhishek and disposing of his body in the river. Ganesh provided a detailed account of their calculated plan:
- The couple devised a scheme where Ganesh enlisted a local youth to take Abhishek on a bicycle to Chandpur area under the pretext of buying kites
- From Chandpur, Ganesh personally transported the boy on his motorcycle to the banks of the Ghaghra river
- At the riverbank, Ganesh struck Abhishek on the head with a brick before throwing his body into the water
- After returning home, Ganesh threatened the local youth who had helped transport Abhishek, warning of dire consequences if he revealed any information
The couple's elaborate attempt to divert attention included filing the missing person report, which initially misdirected both family members and investigating officers. However, persistent police work and technological surveillance ultimately exposed their crime.
This case highlights the extreme consequences of family disputes and the importance of thorough police investigation in uncovering hidden truths behind seemingly straightforward missing person cases.
