Couple Fatally Struck by SUV on Garhwa Highway, Driver Escapes
A devastating road accident on the Garhwa-Ambikapur stretch of National Highway 343 resulted in the tragic deaths of a married couple on Tuesday night. The incident occurred near Bandu village, within the jurisdiction of the Ranka police station, when their motorcycle was violently struck by an SUV.
Victims Identified as Local Residents Returning from Wedding
The deceased have been identified as Lotan Manjhi, 43, and his wife Anita Devi, 38. Both were residents of Chutru village, which falls under the same police station limits. According to police reports, the couple was returning home after attending a marriage ceremony when the collision happened. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries on the spot, highlighting the severity of the impact.
Driver Flees, Police Launch Manhunt and Seize Vehicle
In a distressing turn of events, the driver of the SUV abandoned the vehicle at the accident site and fled the scene immediately after the crash. Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded by seizing the SUV for further investigation. The bodies of Lotan Manjhi and Anita Devi were transported to Garhwa Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Ranka police station officer-in-charge Ravi Kumar Keshri provided an update on the case, stating, "Search is on to arrest the SUV's driver." This statement underscores the ongoing efforts by police to apprehend the suspect and bring justice to the victims' families.
