Couple held with illegal LPG cylinders, foreign liquor in Patna

Patna: Police uncovered an illegal stockpile of LPG cylinders and foreign liquor during a raid in the Shastri Nagar police station area late Sunday night, leading to the arrest of a man and his wife in connection with the case.

The accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar and his wife, Babli Kumari. A case has been registered under relevant sections, and both have been sent for further legal proceedings, police said.

According to the police, a tip-off was received on June 14 about the illegal storage and black-marketing of LPG cylinders at a house near Ravi Chowk in Patel Nagar. Acting on the information, a joint team led by SHO Ravindra Kumar conducted a raid at the premises. During the search, the police recovered 56 LPG cylinders that were being stored illegally. Around 294 litres of foreign liquor were also seized from the house.

Sub-divisional police officer (Secretariat-I) Anu Kumari said the cylinders and liquor were recovered from the couple’s residence. "Sonu has a prior criminal record, which is being verified along with any other possible links. We are also investigating how long the illegal LPG black-marketing and liquor storage operation had been running. Further action is underway," she added.
