A Ballia court on Monday convicted five individuals for the assault and gang-rape of a teenage girl in 2022, sentencing each to 25 years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 24,000, according to a police officer. The verdict was delivered by Special Judge Pratham Kant.

Incident Details

The incident took place on the evening of December 24, 2022, when the victim was walking home with a relative. The accused allegedly dragged her to an isolated location, gang-raped her, and threatened her with death, as per the prosecution.

Accused Identified

The five convicts have been identified as Manoj Yadav, Rakesh Yadav, Pankaj Yadav, Majeet Yadav alias Mukur, and Rohit Yadav, all residents of the same village as the victim.

Legal Proceedings

The victim's father filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police investigation culminated in a charge sheet against all five accused.

Superintendent of Police Omveer Singh confirmed the conviction and sentencing, emphasizing the court's decisive action in the case.
