Tragic Discovery in Maheshwari Village
In a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning, two young individuals were discovered hanging from a tree in Maheshwari village under the Ujirapur police station area of Samastipur district on Saturday morning. The victims have been identified as Abhishek Kumar, aged 20, and Preeti Kumari, aged 18, who were reportedly in a relationship.
Conflicting Family Accounts Emerge
According to Preeti's uncle, Randhir Kumar, the young woman had gone missing on November 6 without informing anyone in her family. "Preeti left home at 11:30 pm on November 6 without telling anyone," he stated, adding that they conducted extensive searches but couldn't locate her initially.
The family later received information that Preeti was with Abhishek. "We went to his house and asked his family to return my niece," Randhir explained. "Abhishek's family told us they would bring her back on Saturday, but instead, today their bodies were found hanging from a tree. My niece was murdered."
In stark contrast, Abhishek's family has denied any knowledge of Preeti. His younger sister, Babita Devi, claimed that Abhishek never discussed Preeti with them and insisted that he was killed. "Abhishek left home in the evening and never returned. He was killed," she alleged.
Police Investigation Underway
The grim discovery was made by local residents who were on their morning walk near Maheshwari Middle School. Upon receiving the information, police officials immediately reached the spot and sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
Investigators revealed that cash and jewellery were recovered from Preeti's bag found at the scene. Police have launched a comprehensive investigation examining both murder and suicide angles according to Dalsinghsarai SDPO Vivek Kumar Sharma, who confirmed that both families are being questioned.
The victims were residents of Kerai village, with Abhishek living in ward number 11 and Preeti in ward number 4. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the village community as they await answers about what exactly transpired between November 6 when Preeti went missing and Saturday morning when both young lives were tragically cut short.
