Tragic Suicide Pact Claims Lives of Young Couple in Guntur
A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in Guntur, where a young couple, who attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at the historic Kondaveedu Fort, have tragically passed away while receiving medical treatment. The victims have been identified as Rasika Manikanta Raju, aged 20, from Swarnabharat Nagar in Guntur, and an 18-year-old woman from Ankamma Nagar.
Family Opposition and Forced Marriage Led to Desperation
According to police reports, the couple had been in a relationship for the past two years. However, their families strongly opposed their union, creating immense emotional distress. In a devastating turn of events, the young woman was recently married to another person against her will, further exacerbating the situation.
Unable to bear the separation and the forced marriage, the woman returned to Guntur, expressing her clear unwillingness to continue with her new marital life. This set the stage for the tragic events that followed.
The Fateful Day at Kondaveedu Fort
On April 7, the couple traveled to Kondaveedu Fort in an auto-rickshaw. They stopped the vehicle along the ghat road, where, in a desperate bid to end their lives, they allegedly consumed a pesticide. Locals who witnessed the couple in distress immediately alerted emergency services.
Both individuals were swiftly transported to the Guntur Government General Hospital via a 108 ambulance. Despite receiving medical attention, their conditions remained critical.
Succumbing to Injuries in Hospital
Manikanta Raju succumbed to his injuries on the evening of April 8, while undergoing treatment. The young woman fought for her life but tragically passed away on April 9 after her condition deteriorated significantly.
Police Investigation and Post-Mortem Procedures
Based on a formal complaint filed by the mother of Manikanta Raju, the Yadlapadu police have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation into the incident. Police officials confirmed that a post-mortem examination of Raju was conducted on Thursday, following which his body was handed over to his grieving family for last rites.
This tragic incident highlights the severe emotional and psychological pressures that can arise from family conflicts and forced marriages, leading to devastating outcomes.
