Congress MP's Nephew Charged with Murder in Ahmedabad Wife Death Case

The Ahmedabad City Police have registered a murder case against Yashrajsinh Durgeshsinh Gohil (35), the nephew of Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil, for the alleged killing of his wife Rajeshwari (30). The incident occurred on the intervening night of January 21 and 22 at their fifth-floor apartment in NRI Tower on Judges Bunglow Road in Ahmedabad.

From Accidental Death to Murder Investigation

Initially, police had filed an accidental death report in this case. However, the investigation took a significant turn when the FIR was registered at Vastrapur police station on Saturday based on a complaint by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jayesh D Brahmbhatt of 'A' Division, acting on behalf of the state.

The post-mortem report from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital indicated that both individuals died due to "shock and haemorrhage as a result of head injury caused by discharge of firearm." This medical finding became the foundation for further police scrutiny.

Suspicious Circumstances Revealed During Investigation

During their detailed investigation, police uncovered several troubling aspects that raised serious questions about the incident being a simple murder-suicide case:

  • The revolver involved in the incident required adequate pressure on the trigger to discharge, making accidental firing unlikely
  • There were only two rounds in the revolver, both of which were fired during the incident
  • No additional bullets were discovered anywhere in the residence

Zone-1 DCP Harshadkumar Patel provided additional insights to The Indian Express, explaining the technical aspects that contributed to police suspicions. "In order to discharge a revolver, first, the hammer needs to be pulled back," Patel stated. "Further, if there was a misfire while handling the firearm, the weapon would have discharged toward the ground, but in this case, the gunshot wound was at the back of the head."

Awaiting Crucial Forensic Evidence

The investigation continues with important forensic evidence still pending. DCP Patel confirmed that authorities are awaiting the ballistics report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), which is expected to arrive in approximately two weeks.

"It will have the details regarding the distance and angle of the bullet entry," Patel explained, emphasizing how this technical analysis will provide crucial information about the shooting circumstances.

Investigation Progress and Legal Implications

Police have yet to record the detailed statement of Gohil's mother, who was the only other person present in the house at the time of Rajeshwari's death. However, authorities have taken the statement of an ambulance paramedic who was present during Gohil's alleged suicide.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the case presents unique legal challenges. Since the accused person is deceased, authorities will ultimately file an abated summary in the case, though the murder charges remain formally recorded against Yashrajsinh Gohil.

The Ahmedabad police continue their meticulous examination of all evidence and circumstances surrounding this high-profile case that has drawn significant public attention due to the political connections involved.
