Coimbatore Police Nab Two Suspects in Vicious Gang Attack, Launch Manhunt for Five Others
The Race Course police in Coimbatore have taken swift action following a disturbing incident of violence, arresting two individuals on Saturday in connection with a brutal assault on three young men. The attack occurred near PN Palayam in the city on Friday night, prompting authorities to initiate a comprehensive manhunt for five additional suspects believed to be involved in the case.
Details of the Arrested Duo and the Assault
An investigation officer has identified the arrested men as J Deepan, aged 33 and hailing from Tirupur, and A Anish, aged 24, a resident of PN Palayam. According to police reports, these two were part of a seven-member gang responsible for attacking three youths: Sudalai (20), Venkataganesh (24), and Sreedharan (25), all natives of Tenkasi.
The officer provided a detailed account of the events leading up to the assault. "The trio, accompanied by their friend Shiva, visited a restaurant at PN Palayam on that fateful night. After finishing their dinner, Shiva and Sreedharan went to a nearby petty shop to purchase cigarettes. A verbal altercation ensued with the shopkeeper, which Sudalai intervened to defuse. Following this, all three returned to the restaurant premises," the officer explained.
Escalation of Violence and Police Response
The situation quickly escalated when the shopkeeper, along with six other individuals, followed the trio back to the restaurant and engaged in a heated confrontation. "The gang launched a vicious assault on Sudalai, using their hands and stones. When Venkataganesh and Sreedharan attempted to intervene, they too were brutally attacked with stones," the officer stated.
Hearing the cries of distress from the victims, nearby residents rushed to the scene to offer assistance. However, the gang issued threats of dire consequences before fleeing the area. Upon being alerted, police officers promptly arrived and transported the injured trio to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Based on a formal complaint lodged by Sudalai, the Race Course police have registered a case against the assailants. The arrests of J Deepan and A Anish mark a significant step in the investigation, but authorities emphasize that their work is far from over. A manhunt is actively underway to locate and apprehend the remaining five members of the gang.
Further investigation is ongoing, as police work to gather additional evidence and ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice. This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance and swift law enforcement action in addressing violent crimes in urban areas.
