Coimbatore Police Nab Two Suspects in Attempted Murder Case
Police in Coimbatore's Ramanathapuram area made a dramatic arrest in the early hours of Monday. They apprehended two men accused of trying to kill two other individuals. The incident stemmed from a previous dispute between the parties.
Violent Attack Follows Earlier Altercation
According to police reports, the arrested individuals are Praveen Kumar, also known as "Mass" Praveen Kumar, aged 30, and Shanmugam, aged 31. Both men live in Ramanathapuram. The victims have been identified as Barani Raja, 28, and Kousik, 27, who also reside in the same locality.
The trouble began earlier when all four men were involved in a drunken fight near Lakshmi Mills. This altercation apparently created lasting hostility. Praveen Kumar developed a strong enmity against Barani Raja and Kousik following that incident.
Birthday Errand Turns Dangerous
The situation escalated on Sunday evening. Barani Raja and Kousik visited a bakery in Ramanathapuram. They wanted to purchase a cake for a friend's birthday celebration. Unfortunately, Praveen Kumar spotted them at the bakery.
Praveen, accompanied by Shanmugam, confronted the two men at the shop. An argument quickly broke out between them. The confrontation turned violent when Praveen allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked Barani Raja and Kousik.
Both victims suffered bleeding injuries to their hands and heads during the assault. After attacking them, Praveen and Shanmugam fled from the scene immediately.
Police Launch Immediate Investigation
Members of the public witnessed the violent incident and promptly alerted the police. They also called for an ambulance to help the injured men. Barani Raja and Kousik received emergency medical attention and were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for proper treatment.
Ramanathapuram police registered a formal case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges included Sections 296(b), 109(1), 118(1), and 351(3). Officers immediately launched a manhunt to locate the suspects.
Dramatic Arrest During Escape Attempt
Late on Sunday night, police officers spotted the two suspects riding a motorcycle in the Ramanathapuram area. When police attempted to stop and detain them, the suspects tried to escape on their bike.
During their frantic escape attempt, the motorcycle lost control. Both men fell from the moving vehicle. One of the suspects, identified as a history-sheeter, sustained a fracture in his hand from the fall.
Police officers quickly secured both individuals despite the accident. They arrested Praveen Kumar and Shanmugam on the spot. Following medical examination, both accused were remanded to judicial custody by the authorities.
