Coimbatore Police Expand History-Sheeters List by 300 Notorious Rowdies
In a significant move to bolster law and order, the Coimbatore police have added more than 300 notorious rowdies to the city's list of history-sheeters. This expansion aims to tighten surveillance on repeat offenders and curb criminal activities across the urban landscape.
Enhanced Monitoring and Legal Measures
Currently, there are over 1,300 history-sheeters in Coimbatore, with police conducting regular and rigorous monitoring of their activities. Authorities issue monthly reports on these individuals and take proactive steps such as summoning those out on bail who continue to engage in unlawful behavior.
Under Section 51A of the Madras City Police Act, police have the authority to expel history-sheeters from Coimbatore city and arrest those who defy such orders. A senior police officer emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to control crime and ensure public safety.
Identification and Assignment of Personnel
The initiative involved personnel from various police stations in Coimbatore collecting detailed backgrounds of repeat offenders. After thorough examination of records, 302 individuals were identified as troublemakers and added to the history-sheeters' list, according to the officer.
To enhance oversight, police have assigned one officer to monitor two to three rowdies each. These officers track daily activities and report to superiors, ensuring constant vigilance.
Current Statistics and Future Plans
Of the existing 1,105 history-sheeters, 594 fall under the north police station limits and 511 under the south. Notably, 91 in the north and 67 in the south are currently incarcerated.
Police are also compiling details on criminals who have been out of trouble for the past decade or are living in exile. Discussions are underway to potentially remove such individuals from the list, which could streamline focus on active threats.
This comprehensive approach is expected to restrict the movement of rowdies in Coimbatore, ultimately leading to a reduction in crime rates and fostering a safer environment for residents.
