Coimbatore Man Found Dead in Irrigation Canal; Wife and Lover Among Five Detained for Murder
In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old man from Coimbatore, who had been missing since March 3, was discovered dead in the PAP irrigation canal at Nathegoundenpalayam in Tirupur district on Saturday. The Sultanpet police in Coimbatore have swiftly taken action, arresting three men and detaining a woman and a minor boy for their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of the victim.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
According to police officials, the victim, identified as M Sathishkumar, 40, from Sultanpet, was kidnapped by an unidentified gang on March 3. He was on his way to S Kumarapalayam to visit his children, who were residing with his estranged wife. The investigation revealed a complex backstory involving marital discord and an extramarital affair.
Sathishkumar was married to Saranya for 11 years, and they had two children together. However, five years ago, Saranya separated from him and moved to her mother's home in S Kumarapalayam with the children. During this time, she developed a relationship with her relative, S Murugan, 40, from V Vadugapalayam. When Sathishkumar learned of this affair, he warned Saranya to end it, which reportedly led to a sinister plot against him.
Planning and Execution of the Murder
On March 3, Saranya informed Murugan that her estranged husband was coming to meet the children. Murugan then orchestrated the abduction with the help of accomplices: V Gobinath, 25, from Tirupur; N Sivalingam, 24, from V Vadugapalayam; and a 17-year-old minor boy. They intercepted Sathishkumar while he was traveling on the Kumarapalayam–Senjerimalai road.
The assailants assaulted him with a beer bottle, forcibly took him to Vathambacheri village, and ultimately pushed him into the PAP irrigation canal, leading to his death. After Sathishkumar failed to return home, his concerned parents filed a missing person complaint with the Sultanpet police on Friday.
Police Action and Ongoing Probe
During the investigation, authorities received crucial information on Saturday confirming that Sathishkumar's body had been found in the canal. The police have arrested Murugan, Gobinath, and Sivalingam for their direct roles in the crime. Additionally, Saranya and the minor boy have been detained for their alleged involvement in the planning and execution of the murder.
An officer stated that further investigations are underway to uncover all details and ensure justice is served. This case highlights the severe consequences of domestic disputes escalating into violent crimes, with law enforcement agencies working diligently to address such incidents in the region.
