In a deeply disturbing incident from Karnataka's Chitradurga district, a village man has been taken into custody by police for the alleged sexual assault of his own two minor daughters over the past month. The accused is charged with repeatedly raping the girls, aged 11 and 14, while their mother reportedly failed to report the crimes.
Gruesome Details of the Assault Emerge
According to accounts provided by villagers and officials, the horrific abuse occurred within the family's home and nearby fields. The 11-year-old daughter was allegedly raped in a cornfield, while the 14-year-old was assaulted inside the house as her mother slept nearby. The pattern of abuse is said to have continued for several weeks before coming to light.
The case was officially registered after Nirmal Chikkannavar, a Child Development Planning Officer with the Department of Women and Child Development, filed a formal complaint. An FIR was lodged at the Women's Police Station under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Following the registration of the case, authorities moved swiftly to secure the safety and well-being of the survivors. The two girls have been placed in the protective custody of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and professional counselling has been initiated for them. Child protection officers formally presented the children before the CWC.
Vijay Kumar, Deputy Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, provided crucial insights into how the case unfolded. "The children first confided in their friends, who then responsibly informed the authorities," he stated. He further clarified the mother's troubling inaction, noting, "Despite being aware of the sexual abuse, the mother did not report it. She is being questioned."

The news triggered widespread anger and shock within the local community. A group of villagers gathered at the office of the Superintendent of Police, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused father.
Addressing the public concern, Ranjit Kumar Bandaru, the Superintendent of Police for Chitradurga, confirmed the arrest. "The man was arrested and an investigation is under way," stated SP Bandaru. He assured that necessary measures are in place to ensure the protection and support of the girls throughout the legal process.
The mother of the children has also been taken into custody for detailed questioning regarding her knowledge of the assaults and her failure to act. The police investigation is currently ongoing to uncover the full extent of the crimes and ensure justice is served under the POCSO Act.
