Chikkamagaluru Police Arrest Three in Inter-Community Threat Case

In a swift response to a disturbing incident, the Chikkamagaluru district police have taken three individuals into custody and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against eight people. The case involves threats made against a 17-year-old boy and his female friend while they were riding a bike together in the Malnad town.

Confrontation at Jyoti Circle

The incident unfolded late on Thursday evening at Jyoti Circle on Market Road in Chikkamagaluru. According to sources, the boy, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community from the Tamil Colony, was intercepted by a group of Muslim youths. He was accompanied by his Muslim friend, also a minor, leading to a confrontation. The accused allegedly threatened the boy for taking the girl on his bike, escalating tensions in the area.

Home Invasion and Abuse Allegations

After the initial altercation was defused and the boy returned to his home in Tamil Colony, the situation took a more severe turn. The boy's uncle, Suman, who filed the official complaint, reported that later that night, the same group of Muslim youths broke into their house. They allegedly abused the family, taunted them for seeking friendship with a Muslim girl, and issued death threats, causing significant distress and fear among the residents.

Police Action and Investigation

Superintendent of police Jitendra Kumar Dayama addressed the media on Friday, confirming that the police acted promptly upon receiving the complaint. He stated that three accused have been arrested in connection with the case. Kumar clarified that while the minor boy was not physically assaulted, he was intimidated by the group, highlighting the psychological impact of the threats. An FIR has been registered against eight individuals, and a thorough probe is currently underway to investigate all aspects of the incident, including the motives behind the threats and the home invasion.

Background of the Friendship

The boy's family has emphasized that the two minors are childhood friends who grew up together, underscoring the long-standing nature of their relationship. This detail adds context to the confrontation, suggesting that the threats may have stemmed from inter-community tensions rather than any wrongdoing by the individuals involved. The police are considering this background as part of their ongoing investigation to ensure justice is served.
