Chennai Announces Traffic Plan for Republic Day Celebrations
The Greater Chennai Traffic Police has rolled out a detailed traffic management plan for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. This plan includes specific arrangements for the rehearsal programs scheduled on January 19, 21, and 23, as well as the main event on January 26.
Major Road Closure on Kamarajar Salai
Authorities will close a significant stretch of Kamarajar Salai to all vehicles. The closure affects the road from Gandhi Statue to War Memorial. It starts at 6 AM and continues until the conclusion of the functions or rehearsals. Officials expect these events to wrap up around 9:30 AM.
Detailed Diversion Routes for Vehicles
Commercial Vehicles from Adyar to Parry's Corner: These vehicles face a major diversion at Greenways Point. The route takes them through RK Mutt Road, Thiruvenkadam Street, Devanathan Street, St Mary's Road, Venkatesa Agraharam Road, Dr Ranga Road, East Abiramapuram 1st Road, Ramachandra Rao Road, Luz Avenue, Amrutanjan Junction, PS Sivasamy Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road, and Anna Salai to finally reach Broadway.
Other Vehicles and Buses on the Same Route: These will divert at Gandhi Statue. They follow RK Salai, Nilgiris Point, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, Royapettah High Road, GRH, Tower Clock, GP Road, and Anna Salai.
Restrictions from Mylapore and Dr Radhakrishnan Road
Vehicles approaching from Mylapore and Dr Radhakrishnan Road at Royapettah 'I' Point will encounter restrictions. MTC buses must turn left towards Nilgiris, Music Academy, TTK Road, Gowdia Mutt Road, GRH, and Tower Clock. Other vehicles may choose to turn left or right at this point.
Police will not allow any vehicles to proceed beyond several key junctions towards Kamarajar Salai. These junctions include Dr Natesan Road–Avvai Shanmugam Salai, Dr Besant Road–Dr Kamarajar Salai, Bharathi Salai–Bells Road, and Wallajah Road–Bells Road. Instead, vehicles must divert via Ice House junction or Bells Road.
Diversion for Vehicles from Parry's Corner to Adyar
Vehicles traveling from Parry's Corner to Adyar will divert at the RBI Subway (North). The route then goes towards Raja Annamalai Mandram, passing through Muthusamy Point, Wallajah Point, Anna Salai, Anna Statue, General Patters Road, Royapettah Tower Clock, West Cott Road, GRH, Royapettah High Road, Ajanta Junction, Lloyds Road (VP Raman Road), Justice Jambulingam Street, and RK Salai.
Temporary Bus Terminus Shift and Additional Closures
The Anna Square bus terminus will temporarily relocate to Chintadripet Railway Station during the restricted hours. Additionally, vehicles cannot enter Flag Staff House Road from Wallajah Point towards War Memorial.
