Chennai Police Approach Court for Identification Parade in Taramani Triple Murder Case
Nearly a month after the city of Chennai was shaken by a brutal triple murder at Taramani, the police have taken a significant legal step by approaching a magistrate court. They are seeking permission to conduct an identification parade to confirm the involvement of the three arrested suspects: Sathyendran, aged 33, Lalit Prasad, aged 45, and Vikas Kumar, aged 24.
Details of the Gruesome Crime
The victims of this heinous crime were a guest worker-couple from Bihar, Gaurav Kumar, 25, and Munithakumari, 20, along with their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar. The murders occurred on January 25 at the Central Polytechnic College campus. According to police reports, the incident took place in a room on the fourth floor of the Chemical Institute of Technology building, which has since been sealed for investigation.
Police have revealed that the tragedy unfolded when Gaurav was consuming alcohol with the suspects. A quarrel erupted, leading to Gaurav being attacked with an iron rod. Hearing his cries, Munithakumari entered the room with her son to intervene, only to be killed as well. In a chilling attempt to cover up the crime, Sathyendran and another accused transported Gaurav Kumar's body on a motorcycle and dumped it in front of a two-wheeler workshop at Indira Nagar, though they initially intended to dispose of it elsewhere to avoid detection.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Noting that a detailed post-mortem report is still awaited, the police emphasized they are meticulously preparing a water-tight case before filing a chargesheet. When asked why the suspects have not yet been taken into custody, an officer explained that they possess substantial documentary and forensic evidence. Custodial interrogation may be sought later if required, under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, ensuring a thorough legal process.
Key Points of the Case:
- All victims and suspects are originally from Bihar, highlighting a tragic connection.
- The identification parade is crucial for confirming suspect involvement and strengthening the case.
- Police are focusing on gathering all evidence to ensure a robust prosecution.
This case underscores the challenges in urban crime investigation and the importance of procedural diligence in high-profile murders.
