In a dramatic interstate operation, the Chennai city police successfully rescued a businessman from Telangana who was kidnapped over a massive unpaid loan. The police also arrested six individuals connected to the crime, bringing a swift end to the hostage situation.
The Abduction and Swift Police Response
The victim, identified as 57-year-old Ravindra Gowda from K V Ranga Reddy district in Telangana, dealt in second-hand luxury cars. According to police reports, Gowda had taken loans to expand his business but found himself unable to repay the amount, which had escalated to around ₹5 crore. Facing relentless harassment from moneylenders, he relocated with his family to a rented house in Chennai's Alwarthirunagar area in early December for safety.
However, his troubles followed him. On Friday, a gang intercepted and abducted him from near his residence in Valasaravakkam. Acting promptly, Gowda's daughter, Prasanna Lakshmi, alerted the Chennai police control room about her father's kidnapping.
Interstate Chase Leads to Rescue
Based on the complaint filed by Prasanna Lakshmi, a special police team was formed under the leadership of Koyambedu Inspector Rajesh. The team diligently tracked the movements of the kidnappers, which led them out of Tamil Nadu and into the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.
The trail ended near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, where the police managed to intercept the vehicle used by the abductors. In a well-coordinated move, the officers stormed the vehicle, safely rescued Ravindra Gowda, and took all six accused into custody on the spot.
The Accused and Legal Proceedings
The police have identified all six arrested individuals, all of whom are natives of Telangana. They are: Inglaj Veraat Jaiswal (38), Vaikundam Ramulu (41), Mothi Babu Narsing Rao (45), D Srikanth (30), T V Preetham Kumar (35), and Bheema Reddy Nagaraju (35).
Investigations confirmed that the primary motive behind the kidnapping was Gowda's failure to repay the substantial loan. After their arrest in Nellore, the accused were transported back to Chennai. They were formally produced before a magistrate court in the city, which subsequently ordered them to be remanded in Puzhal central prison as the legal process continues.
This case highlights the severe consequences of high-stakes private loan disputes and the efficiency of the Chennai police in handling cross-border criminal activities. The swift action by Gowda's daughter and the subsequent police response prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
