Rourkela: In a swift action, police in Sundargarh district arrested three men on Wednesday for the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl that took place on Tuesday. The arrests came a day after the victim filed a complaint with the authorities.
Details of the Incident
Sundargarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Amritpal Kaur stated that the minor had gone to an open area around 3:30 pm to relieve herself when the three accused allegedly approached her. They pinned her down and raped her one after another, the SP added. The girl later recounted the traumatic experience to her parents.
Legal Action Taken
The victim and her mother reached the police station around 7:30 pm on Tuesday and lodged a formal complaint. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The accused, aged 25, 24, and 23, were arrested on Wednesday. The SP confirmed that the investigation is underway.
