Chennai Murder Mystery Solved: Broken Window Reveals Husband's Deadly Plot
What was initially reported as a tragic accidental fall at a residence in Perumbedu, near Ponneri, Chennai, has been uncovered as a premeditated murder following meticulous police investigation. The victim, identified as M Kousalya, a BEd student from Ponneri, lost her life in what authorities now describe as a carefully orchestrated crime.
Victim and Suspects Identified
The deceased, M Kousalya, was pursuing her Bachelor of Education degree and had married D Rajesh, a 31-year-old interior designer, in an arranged ceremony in August of the previous year. Despite the marriage, Kousalya continued her academic pursuits as usual. However, police investigations revealed that Rajesh maintained a long-standing romantic relationship with M Deepika, a 21-year-old distant relative.
Family opposition to Rajesh's relationship with Deepika had led to his arranged marriage with Kousalya, but he continued the illicit affair even after wedding Kousalya. According to police statements, the duo conspired to eliminate Kousalya so they could live together without obstruction.
The Murder and Staged Accident
Police detailed how Rajesh and Deepika waited for an opportunity when Kousalya would be alone at home, as relatives frequently visited the residence. On Friday evening, when Kousalya returned early from college and no guests were present, Rajesh executed their plan.
"Rajesh smothered her with a pillow and repeatedly banged her head against the wall, killing her on the spot," police officials stated. "He then attempted to stage the murder as an accidental fall by spilling oil on the floor to create the appearance of a slip, placing her body there, and bolting the door from inside."
To fabricate an alibi suggesting he was outside during the incident, Rajesh exited the house by breaking a window. He then mingled casually with neighbors before returning home and raising an alarm, claiming his wife was not responding to his calls.
Investigation and Breakthrough
Neighbors responded to Rajesh's distress calls, broke open the door, and rushed Kousalya to Ponneri Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Suspicion initially arose when Kousalya's mother, Revathi, noticed injuries inconsistent with an accidental fall and filed a formal complaint at Ponneri police station, demanding a thorough investigation.
During their inquiry, police identified several inconsistencies at the crime scene, most notably the broken window. Local residents confirmed to investigators that the window had been intact until the previous day, contradicting Rajesh's narrative.
When confronted with this evidence during questioning, Rajesh confessed to the murder and revealed Deepika's involvement in the conspiracy. Both individuals were subsequently arrested in connection with the crime, bringing a disturbing case of domestic betrayal to light.
This investigation highlights how seemingly minor details, like a broken window, can become crucial evidence in solving complex criminal cases, ensuring justice for victims and their families.
