Chennai Man Arrested for Swindling 70 Sovereigns of Gold Jewellery Using Superstition
In a shocking case of deception, a 31-year-old man has been arrested in Chennai for allegedly tricking a woman into handing over nearly 70 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The accused, identified as Sri Deepadharshan, convinced the victim that her home in Kodungaiyur was plagued by evil forces and required special rituals to ward them off.
The Discovery of the Theft
The incident came to light when Bujangaram, a 67-year-old resident, opened his bureau locker on February 19 after returning from a family function in December last year. To his horror, he found the locker empty, with nearly 70 sovereigns of gold ornaments missing. Bujangaram had placed all the family's valuables in the locker before leaving for the function, along with his wife and two daughters.
Upon discovering the theft, Bujangaram immediately lodged a complaint with the Kodungaiyur police. The investigation quickly revealed a disturbing chain of events involving his 29-year-old daughter, Aishwarya.
The Elaborate Deception
Police inquiries uncovered that Aishwarya had become acquainted with Sri Deepadharshan through her friend Jayasri. Deepadharshan allegedly told Aishwarya that evil forces were present in their house and that special rituals were required to remove them. He further convinced her that gold was necessary to perform these rituals effectively.
Over time, Deepadharshan gradually collected the gold ornaments from Aishwarya without the knowledge of her family members. The police investigation revealed that Jayasri acted as an accomplice in this crime, facilitating the deception. While Deepadharshan has been arrested by Kodungaiyur police, Jayasri is currently absconding, and authorities are actively searching for her.
