Chennai police on Monday evening arrested a 35-year-old migrant worker for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman software engineer. The incident occurred in the early hours near Kilpauk, sending shockwaves through the locality. The swift police action, involving the scanning of over 50 CCTV cameras, led to the identification and capture of the suspect.

Details of the Disturbing Incident

The victim, a 31-year-old woman originally from Thiruvarur who works for a private software company in Chennai, had just returned from her hometown. She alighted at Purasawalkam around 4:30 am on Monday and was waiting for a call taxi to take her to her hostel. According to the police complaint, a man approached and sexually assaulted her. The woman screamed for help, prompting the assailant to flee the scene immediately.

Acting on her complaint, the Kilpauk police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. The police team meticulously examined footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras installed across the area to trace the culprit's escape route and identity.

Suspect Apprehended After Chase, Suffers Injury

The investigation zeroed in on Pramod Yadav, a resident of Jharkhand. Police identified Yadav, who works at a sweet shop in the Egmore area of Chennai. During the attempt to apprehend him, Yadav tried to escape from the police. In the process, he fractured his arm, as confirmed by the authorities. He was subsequently taken into custody and provided with necessary medical treatment for his injury.

Following his arrest, Pramod Yadav was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. The case highlights concerns over the safety of women, especially during odd hours, even in a bustling metropolitan city like Chennai.
