Tragic House Fire Near Guduvanchery Claims Three Family Members
A devastating fire that erupted at a residential house in Pandur village near Guduvanchery in the early hours of Tuesday resulted in the tragic deaths of three family members. The victims have been identified as Parthiban, a 34-year-old construction worker, his 29-year-old wife Chitra, and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Jayashree.
Family's Whereabouts Before the Tragedy
According to police reports, the couple and their young daughter frequently stayed at the residence of Parthiban's elder sister, Maheshwari, located in JJ Nagar. On Monday evening, Parthiban reportedly consumed alcohol before arriving at Maheshwari's house where his wife and child were already present.
Later that same evening, Maheshwari's son Pavan Kumar fell ill, prompting Maheshwari, her husband Ramnath (45), and her parents Moorthy (63) and Pushpa (56) to take the child to a private hospital in Selaiyur near Tambaram for medical treatment. This left Parthiban, Chitra, and their daughter alone at the house.
Discovery of the Fire
When the family returned from the hospital around 1 AM, they were confronted with a horrifying scene: thick smoke and flames were billowing from the windows of the house. After receiving no response to their calls, Maheshwari immediately alerted neighbors, the fire and rescue services, and Guduvanchery police personnel.
Police officials noted that the house was situated away from the main road, with neighboring residences at some distance, which significantly delayed local residents from noticing the fire. The house was found locked from the inside, complicating initial rescue efforts.
Police Investigation and Recovery
The Guduvanchery police inspector and other officials subsequently recovered the bodies from the scene and transported them to Chengalpet Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Police have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Investigators are currently examining CCTV camera footage from the surrounding area and have called in forensic and fingerprint experts to collect crucial evidence. While initial speculation suggested a mosquito coil might have caused the blaze, police have stated there is no evidence so far to confirm this theory. Authorities are also checking whether an electrical short circuit might have been responsible for the tragic incident.
The cause of the fire remains unclear as the investigation continues, with police working diligently to piece together the events that led to this heartbreaking loss of life in the Chennai suburb.
