Times News Network | Vishvendu Jaipuriar: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Chatra arrested a drug peddler and seized 2.5 kg of opium valued at approximately Rs 13 lakh from the Sirkol area under Pathalgadda police station limits on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Manish Munda, a resident of Barkitand Khaira village in Pathalgadda. Police also confiscated a motorcycle allegedly used for transporting the contraband.

Police Action Based on Tip-Off

Simaria SDPO Nagar Goje Shubham Bhausaheb stated that police received a tip-off about an individual carrying an opium consignment from Pathalgadda towards Giddhaur block. Acting on this intelligence, a raid team was formed and vehicle checking was intensified in the Sirkol area. During the operation, police intercepted a motorcycle rider on suspicion, leading to the recovery of the opium.

Investigation Underway

The accused is currently being interrogated to ascertain the source of the consignment and the intended recipient, the SDPO added. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network involved in the illegal drug trade.
