In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Chatra police apprehended three individuals transporting a substantial quantity of opium on a motorcycle. The arrest occurred during a routine vehicle inspection on a major thoroughfare, preventing the illegal consignment from reaching its intended destination in a neighboring state.
The Saturday Interception
The operation unfolded on Saturday on the busy Chatra–Dobhi Main Road. A police team, conducting a vehicle checking drive near the Kali Mandir, stopped a motorcycle carrying three individuals. Upon searching the vehicle, the officers made a critical discovery: 460 grams of opium was found in their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the peddlers were on their way to Bihar to distribute the contraband.
Identities and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have identified the arrested individuals. Two of them, Chandan Kumar and Pintu Kumar, are residents of Kuniya Bara village under Karma panchayat in Jharkhand. The third accused, Gautam Kumar, hails from Jhaur under the Sherghati police station in Gaya, Bihar.
Amit Kumar, the officer in-charge of the Vashishth Nagar police station, confirmed the details of the case. He emphasized that this arrest is a significant blow to the local drug trade network. “Raids are under way to arrest other members of the gang,” he stated, indicating that the police are pursuing further leads to dismantle the entire supply chain involved in this illicit operation.
