Varanasi: The Rohania police have filed a chargesheet against Saurabh Tyagi of Ghaziabad, who is the partner of fugitive codeine syrup smuggling syndicate kingpin Shubham Jaiswal. Tyagi was previously arrested by the Rohania police, who recovered a significant stock of contraband from him.
DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar confirmed on Thursday that Tyagi is currently lodged in Tripura jail. The chargesheet against other accused persons in the case had already been filed earlier. After completing all necessary formalities, the process of filing the chargesheet against Tyagi before the fast track court of ADJ (14th Finance Commission) was also completed on Wednesday, he added.
Tyagi was accused in the case registered by Rohania police following the recovery of a huge stock of codeine cough syrup from a gym in Bhadwar on November 19, 2025. He was among nine accused in the case. Except for Shubham, all other accused, including his father Bhola Prasad Jaiswal, have been arrested. The fugitive kingpin Shubham Jaiswal is being hunted by Interpol after a red-corner notice was issued against him.
During the police investigation, it was found that the cough syrup recovered in the Bhadwar area belonged to Tyagi. Police are now tracing the properties of six accused in the case to initiate forfeiture proceedings.
Background of the Case
The case came to light when Rohania police conducted a raid at a gym in Bhadwar and seized a massive quantity of codeine cough syrup. The operation was part of a crackdown on illegal drug trafficking networks operating in the region. The kingpin, Shubham Jaiswal, remains at large, and an Interpol red corner notice has been issued against him. Authorities are working to dismantle the syndicate and bring all involved to justice.
Legal Proceedings
The chargesheet against Saurabh Tyagi marks a significant step in the legal process. The fast track court will now examine the evidence presented by the police. The forfeiture of properties belonging to the accused is also being pursued to ensure that the proceeds of crime are seized.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in Uttar Pradesh and across India. The police have assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure a thorough investigation and successful prosecution.
