Woman and Brother-in-Law Found Dead in Chandigarh Residence, Police Suspect Suicide Pact
In a tragic incident in Chandigarh, a woman and her brother-in-law were discovered dead at a house in Sector 41 on Thursday afternoon. Police officials stated that both individuals allegedly hanged themselves inside the residence while the woman's young children were asleep in another part of the home.
Discovery Through Video Call Reveals Grim Scene
The shocking discovery unfolded when the woman's husband, Faraan, who was away in Uttar Pradesh, made a video call to his wife, Nagma. Their four-year-old son answered the phone and informed his father that his mother and uncle were hanging in a room. Faraan immediately contacted a cousin and directed him to the house in Buterla village, Sector 41. Upon arrival, the cousin found both Nagma, 27, and Murshleen, 24, hanging and promptly alerted the police.
Police Response and Initial Investigations
Law enforcement officers from the Sector 39 police station rushed to the scene and transported the bodies to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) conducted a thorough inspection of the crime scene, collecting crucial evidence to aid in the investigation.
No suicide note has been recovered from the premises, according to police statements. Ram Dayal, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sector 39 police station, emphasized that while the initial appearance suggests a suicide, the exact cause of death will only be determined after receiving the autopsy report and completing forensic analyses.
Background and Ongoing Probe
The deceased, identified as Nagma and Murshleen, were originally from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. Sources indicate that Faraan had traveled to Uttar Pradesh, leaving Nagma and Murshleen residing together in the Chandigarh house. Police are actively recording statements from neighbors, the husband, and other relevant individuals to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
Although police suspect this may be a case of a suicide pact, authorities are maintaining a cautious approach, awaiting conclusive results from the postmortem and forensic investigations to rule out any other possibilities. The community has been left in shock as the investigation continues to unfold.
