Chandigarh Police Cracks Down on Interstate Drug Trafficking Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Operations Cell of Chandigarh Police has dismantled an interstate drug trafficking racket, apprehending two key individuals and confiscating a commercial quantity of charas exceeding 1.28 kilograms. The arrests, made in a coordinated effort, highlight the ongoing crackdown on narcotics distribution in the region.
Dual Arrests and Seizures Across State Lines
According to official statements released on Tuesday, the police team first arrested Rahul, a 26-year-old resident of Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, on February 5, 2026. He was intercepted near Shiv Mandir on Railway Road in Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh, while acting suspiciously with a bag. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 1 kilogram and 56 grams of charas in his possession, leading to an immediate case registration under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Mauli Jagran police station.
Following four days of police remand, Rahul disclosed critical information about his supplier, Krishan Chand, a 38-year-old resident of Manikaran in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district. Acting swiftly on this lead, an Operations Cell team conducted a follow-up operation and apprehended Krishan Chand from Parvati Central Cafe in Uchdhar village, under the jurisdiction of the Manikaran police station. During his arrest, an additional 228 grams of charas were seized from Krishan, prompting the addition of Section 29 of the NDPS Act to the case for involvement in a conspiracy.
Investigations Reveal Trafficking Patterns and Backgrounds
Investigations have uncovered that Krishan Chand was the primary supplier, funneling charas to Rahul, who then distributed the contraband across the tricity area of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. Police officials noted that both accused had been engaged in drug peddling for a considerable period, though neither has a prior criminal record. Rahul is reported to operate a hotel on a lease basis in Kasol, while Krishan works as a taxi driver in Manikaran, indicating the diverse backgrounds involved in such illicit activities.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by Chandigarh Police to prevent and detect crime, with teams strategically deployed to monitor anti-social elements and drug traffickers. The successful bust underscores the effectiveness of vigilant patrols and intelligence-driven follow-ups in combating interstate narcotics networks.
