The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway has achieved significant success in its operations during the first quarter of 2026. From January to April, the force apprehended over 1,300 touts, seized contraband valued at Rs 43.6 lakh, and returned lost luggage worth Rs 3.09 crore to its rightful owners. The data, covering all five divisions of Central Railway, was released on Thursday.
Operation Uplabdh: Cracking Down on Unauthorized Entry
To safeguard the rights of passengers with reserved tickets, the RPF intensified its drives against unauthorized entry into reserved coaches and obstruction caused to bonafide passengers. Under Operation Uplabdh, 1,377 cases were registered and 1,367 persons were apprehended across Central Railway. Fines amounting to Rs 2.87 lakh were collected from the offenders.
Operation Narcos and Operation Satark: Zero Tolerance for Contraband
Displaying zero tolerance towards misuse of the railway network for transportation of contraband, the RPF cracked down on narcotics, tobacco, and illicit liquor. Under Operation Narcos, from January to April 2026, 13 cases of illegal transportation of marijuana were detected, and contraband valued at Rs 21.92 lakh was seized. Ten offenders were arrested in connection with these cases. Additionally, under Operation Satark, seizures worth Rs 43.67 lakh were made, including narcotics and other prohibited items.
Operation Amanat: Returning Lost Belongings
Under Operation Amanat, RPF personnel ensured the safe retrieval and return of passengers' lost belongings. From January to April 2026, 744 pieces of luggage valued at Rs 3.09 crore were recovered and handed over to their rightful owners after thorough verification. This initiative has helped numerous passengers recover their valuable items.
Central Railway has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets, avoid approaching unauthorized agents, and report any suspicious activity or unclaimed baggage to the RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP), or the '139' helpline.
