CBI Nabs Convicted Fugitive in Guwahati After 10-Year Manhunt
The Central Bureau of Investigation has made a significant arrest in Guwahati. They captured a person convicted in a corruption case that dates back fourteen years. This individual had been on the run for more than a decade.

A court in Mizoram convicted Tamanna Chakma, also known as Tamie May, on May 17, 2024. She was one of twenty-three people found guilty in this long-standing case. The original complaint involved UP Mishra. He served as the zonal manager for the National Projects Construction Corporation Limited in Silchar, Assam. Five others were also booked by the agency.
The case centered on the alleged misappropriation of compensation bills. The legal proceedings dragged on for nearly twelve years. During the trial, Chakma failed to appear in court. The trial court then issued an arrest warrant for her.
The CBI stated they made persistent efforts to locate her. Despite their sustained attempts, she managed to stay untraceable throughout the trial. She did not show up even after the court announced its judgment.
The Arrest Operation in Guwahati
The CBI's Shillong team finally tracked her down. They acted on intelligence gathered from field verification. Physical surveillance and a thorough analysis of call detail records played a crucial role.
On Saturday, officers detained Chakma in Guwahati. The arrest took place in an area under the jurisdiction of the Geeta Nagar police station. This operation marks the end of a lengthy search for the convicted fugitive.
The agency confirmed these details in a statement released on Sunday. The arrest highlights the CBI's continued pursuit of individuals convicted in corruption cases, even years after the trial concludes.
