Case Filed Over Abusive Facebook Post Against Hyderabad Police Chief

The Cybercrime Police in Hyderabad have taken suo motu cognizance of an allegedly abusive and defamatory Facebook post targeting Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar. The post was made by a user identified as Ramakrishna Modumpuram on April 25.

Complaint and Registration of Case

The case was initiated based on a complaint lodged by Constable N Srikanth Naik, who is attached to the Cybercrime Police Station. The complaint stated that Ramakrishna Modumpuram published an objectionable post containing abusive language and false allegations against the Commissioner of Police.

Legal Provisions Invoked

Police officials confirmed that the post referred to the senior officer in derogatory terms and included unverified allegations. Consequently, a case has been registered under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, along with Sections 353(1)(c) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The development comes shortly after Commissioner Sajjanar was promoted to the rank of Director General and met with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Authorities are investigating the matter further.
