An early morning bus accident in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district left twenty-one people injured, including a group of four women tourists from Israel. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the omnibus lost control and overturned near Vadamadurai.
Sequence of Events on Karur-Dindigul Highway
The bus, driven by a man identified as Palanisamy, was on a journey from Bengaluru to the popular hill station of Kodaikanal. It was carrying nineteen passengers along with an additional driver. At around 5 am, as the vehicle was approaching the Vadamadurai area on the busy Karur-Dindigul national highway, the driver was forced to take sudden evasive action.
To avoid a collision with a car traveling ahead, the bus swerved sharply to the left. This maneuver caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The bus subsequently veered off the road and overturned, landing in a roadside ditch near Kottaiyur.
Rescue and Medical Response
Following alerts about the accident, fire and rescue services personnel quickly arrived at the site. All the injured individuals, who sustained minor injuries in the rollover, were extracted from the wreckage.
They were first rushed to the Vadamadurai Government Hospital for initial medical attention. Considering the nature of the incident and the number of casualties, medical authorities decided to refer all patients to the larger Dindigul Government Hospital for further treatment and observation.
Police Investigation Underway
Local law enforcement has registered a formal case regarding the accident. The Vedasandur police are leading the investigation to determine the exact cause. Officers will examine factors such as driver fatigue, road conditions, and the actions of the other vehicle involved.
The presence of foreign nationals among the injured adds a layer of sensitivity to the case, with authorities likely to coordinate with relevant embassies or consulates. This accident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety on national highways, especially during early morning hours when visibility and driver alertness can be compromised.
