Bus Accident in Barwani: 14 Injured After Vehicle Plunges into Field
A private bus traveling from Khandwa to Barwani veered off the road and entered a roadside field on Friday, resulting in injuries to fourteen passengers. The incident occurred in the Rajpur police station area of Barwani district, and the entire event was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
Details of the Highway Mishap
Police reported that the accident took place on the Khandwa–Vadodara Highway near a petrol pump on the outskirts of Rajpur town. According to authorities, the bus suddenly went out of control and descended from the highway into an adjoining field, causing injuries to all fourteen passengers on board.
Rajpur police station in-charge Vikram Singh Bamaniya stated, "Preliminary investigation suggests that a technical malfunction prevented the driver from maintaining control of the vehicle, and CCTV footage clearly shows the bus leaving the road and moving into the field." He emphasized that chaos erupted immediately after the accident, with local residents and police personnel rushing to the scene to rescue the injured passengers.
Potential for More Serious Consequences
Bamaniya highlighted that the situation could have been far more severe if the bus had collided with a tree located between the road and the field. A case was registered following the incident, and the bus was seized by authorities for further examination.
Medical Response and Injuries
All fourteen injured passengers were promptly transported to the Community Health Centre in Rajpur for medical attention. Block medical officer Dr. Devendra Romde provided details on their conditions, noting that after primary treatment, nine passengers were referred to the District Hospital in Barwani due to suspected fractures. The remaining passengers sustained minor injuries and received care at the local facility.
Driver's Account of the Incident
Bus driver Mukesh Rathore, a resident of Bhikangaon, recounted the moments leading up to the accident. He explained that while taking a turn near a culvert, a loud noise was heard from the lower portion of the bus. This was followed by the vehicle losing balance and veering into the field, leading to the injuries sustained by the passengers.
The investigation into the exact cause of the technical malfunction is ongoing, with authorities focusing on ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future through stricter vehicle maintenance checks and safety protocols.
