Tragic Suicide of BSF Jawan in West Bengal Hospital
A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, identified as Arun Mukherjee, died by suicide in the washroom of Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital in Krishnanagar, Nadia district, on Thursday evening. The jawan, who was reportedly overwhelmed by grief and severe depression following his father's recent death, took his own life using his sister's scarf.
Family Details and Emotional Turmoil
Arun Mukherjee, a resident of Bazarpara in Raghunathganj, was stationed with a BSF battalion in Krishnanagar. He had returned to his family home just four days prior to the incident after receiving news of his father's passing. According to family members, Mukherjee was battling intense emotional distress compounded by physical illness, which significantly deteriorated his mental state.
Concerned about his worsening condition, the family admitted him to Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital on Thursday morning for medical attention and support. Despite their efforts to provide care, the jawan's psychological struggles proved overwhelming.
Details of the Tragic Incident
On Thursday evening, Mukherjee asked his sister, Tumpa Das, for her scarf, known locally as an orna. Although initially hesitant, she eventually handed it over to him. Mukherjee then proceeded to the hospital washroom, carrying the scarf with him.
When he failed to return after an extended period, his sister grew increasingly anxious. She knocked repeatedly on the washroom door but received no response. Alarmed, she immediately raised an alarm, alerting hospital staff and other bystanders in the vicinity.
Hospital personnel and witnesses quickly assembled and forced open the locked washroom door. Inside, they discovered Mukherjee hanging from the scarf. Medical professionals on duty examined him and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Local police authorities were promptly informed about the incident. Law enforcement officials arrived at the hospital to secure the area and initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicide.
