The bride, identified as Aarti Kumari, daughter of Nandji Mallah, was participating in the traditional ceremony when a masked assailant climbed onto the stage and fired a shot that struck her in the stomach. Eyewitnesses reported that the loud wedding music initially muffled the gunshot, but moments later, Aarti collapsed, causing widespread panic among the guests. She was first taken to the sadar hospital in Buxar and later referred to Varanasi due to her critical condition.
