Horrific Incident at Basti Wedding: Boy Pushed Into Burning Tandoor Over Sweets
In a shocking and brutal incident, an 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being pushed into a burning tandoor by a catering contractor at a wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district. The tragic event occurred on Friday, leaving the child with severe burns from face to waist.
Details of the Disturbing Attack
The victim, identified as Chaman from Gonda, had been living with his maternal grandparents in Basti's Chhawani area following his mother's death. He accompanied his grandmother to a relative's wedding celebration. According to family members, Chaman was playing at the venue before wandering to the food preparation area, where he began eating sweets, specifically rasgullas.
Eyewitnesses reported that the catering contractor, 35-year-old Lalji Nishad, observed the boy repeatedly taking rasgullas and mistakenly believed he was an intruder at the wedding. In a violent reaction, Lalji dragged the child to the cooking section and forced him to sit on a blazing tandoor. The boy lost his balance and fell into the scorching oven, sustaining critical burn injuries.
Immediate Response and Medical Treatment
Upon hearing the child's desperate screams, wedding guests rushed to the scene and managed to pull him out of the tandoor. Chaman was initially taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care but was later referred to King George's Medical College in Lucknow due to the severity of his condition. He remains in critical condition, battling for survival.
Speaking briefly from his hospital bed, the traumatized boy recounted the horrific experience: "It was burning... I kept crying and asking them to take me out. It hurt a lot. I thought I would die." His words highlight the sheer terror and pain he endured during the attack.
Arrest and Legal Action
Basti Superintendent of Police Yesh Veer Singh confirmed that Lalji Nishad and his brother Ramesh Nishad, 27, held the catering contract for the wedding. The accused fled the location after the incident but were apprehended by police on Saturday. Basti Circle Officer Swarnima Singh stated that Lalji has been charged with attempt to murder under BNS section 109 (1), based on a formal complaint filed by the boy's uncle, Devidin Nishad.
This appalling case has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about safety and accountability at social gatherings. Authorities are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served for the young victim and his family.
