A Saturday outing for a family in Mumbai turned traumatic when a BEST bus collided with their motorcycle, leaving an 11-year-old boy with serious leg injuries. The incident occurred on the busy LBS Marg in Kurla, prompting police to take legal action against the bus driver.
Details of the Kurla Road Mishap
The accident took place on Saturday. According to the Kurla police, the complainant, Shohrab Shaikh, a cloth vendor residing in Kurla West, was riding his motorcycle with his relatives. Pillion riders included the victim, Mohammed Sharif Shaikh, aged 11, and another 10-year-old boy named Junaid.
The group was travelling from near the Hanuman Temple, which is opposite a public school in Kurla West, towards Kurla station with the plan to eat food. It was during this short journey that their path intersected with a BEST bus driven by 57-year-old Narayan Pisal.
Sudden Turn Leads to Collision
Police stated that the bus driver, Pisal, took a sudden and negligent turn. The bus reportedly pressed against the motorcycle from its left side. The impact was severe enough to trap the motorcycle under the bus.
Mohammed Sharif Shaikh, who was on the pillion, sustained serious injuries to his right foot. His little toe and an adjacent finger were struck by the bus's mudguard. Medical reports confirmed that the young boy suffered fractures on his leg. He is currently under medical care and recuperating from the injuries. The other occupants, including the rider Shohrab and Junaid, escaped with minor injuries.
Legal Action and Aftermath
Following the incident and based on the complaint, the Kurla police have registered a case against the BEST bus driver, Narayan Pisal. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving.
This accident on LBS Marg has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in Mumbai's congested areas, especially involving public transport and two-wheelers. The investigation into the exact circumstances is ongoing.
