Panic spread across Jalandhar on Monday after eleven private schools in the city received bomb threats via email, leading to immediate and large-scale action by the district administration and police forces.
Swift Administrative Response
Addressing a joint press conference in the early afternoon, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal detailed the swift response. He stated that both civil and police administrations moved quickly after the schools alerted them. As a precaution, anti-sabotage teams and other security personnel were rushed to the affected schools to conduct thorough checks of the premises.
"No suspicious object or activity was detected during the comprehensive search operations," Aggarwal confirmed. He added that school managements, who had been informed about the safety protocols, extended their full cooperation to the officials during the drill.
Cyber Investigation Launched
Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur provided crucial updates on the investigative front. She disclosed that an FIR has been registered under the Cyber Cell to probe the origin of the threatening emails. Cyber teams are actively working to trace the source of the Virtual Private Network (VPN) used to send these alarming messages.
"So far, nothing suspicious has been found, and the threats appear to be aimed at creating unnecessary panic among the public," Commissioner Kaur said, indicating that preliminary investigations point towards the threats being frivolous in nature.
Appeal for Calm
Both senior officers appealed to citizens, especially parents and the school community, to remain calm and have trust in the authorities. They assured the public that security agencies conducted exhaustive searches and found no cause for immediate concern. The administration's prompt action helped contain the situation and prevent widespread disruption, although the incident caused significant anxiety.
The focus now remains on the cyber investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for orchestrating the hoax threats that gripped the city in fear.
