Bokaro man arrested for filming woman without consent

Police in Bokaro have made an arrest in a disturbing case of privacy violation and cyber harassment. A man was taken into custody on Friday for allegedly recording a video of a woman without her consent and then circulating it among her relatives and close acquaintances.

The Incident and Police Complaint

According to the official statement from Bokaro Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh, the woman detailed the events in her formal complaint. She stated that she had visited her male friend, identified as Vicky Kumar, a resident of Kurmidih, a few days prior to the incident. During this visit, Kumar is accused of secretly recording a video of her without her knowledge or permission.

The situation escalated on December 17, when the accused allegedly shared the illicitly recorded video with the woman's relatives. This act caused the victim severe mental distress and anguish, prompting her to seek legal recourse.

Legal Action and Arrest

The victim approached the police to lodge a formal complaint on December 18. Acting swiftly on her statement, officials from the Balidih police station registered a case against the accused. The charges were framed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, highlighting the serious nature of the digital offence.

Following the registration of the case, police investigators tracked down and arrested the accused. After the arrest, he was produced before a local court, which subsequently ordered him to be remanded to judicial custody.

Broader Implications for Digital Safety

This case underscores the growing menace of technology-facilitated crimes, particularly those targeting women's privacy and dignity. The application of both the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the established IT Act demonstrates the legal framework available to combat such non-consensual recording and distribution of private content.

Authorities are treating the matter with seriousness, sending a clear message that cyber crime involving invasion of privacy will lead to strict legal consequences. The incident serves as a stark reminder for the public to be vigilant about their digital interactions and personal safety.
