A daring daylight robbery attempt was foiled by alert staff at a prominent jewellery showroom in Bokaro on Sunday. A group of seven armed criminals, including two men allegedly dressed in police uniform, tried to carry out a heist but fled after the security guard and employees raised an alarm.
The Audacious Plan Unfolds
According to DSP (City) Alok Ranjan, the incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday at a showroom located in the City Centre area, which falls under the Sector-4 police station limits. Seven miscreants arrived on three motorcycles to execute their plan.
DSP Ranjan explained that the two accused in police uniform took the lead. They approached the showroom staff under the guise of conducting a security audit, inquiring about CCTV cameras and other safety arrangements. This tactic was likely an attempt to gain trust and access to the secure premises without raising immediate suspicion.
Alert Staff Thwarts the Heist
The showroom employees, however, displayed commendable presence of mind. They insisted on speaking to the local police station to verify the audit before allowing the men to proceed further. "Meanwhile, five others attempted to enter the showroom," stated DSP Ranjan.
When the security guard intervened to stop them, a scuffle broke out. Sensing that the situation was turning dangerous and the intentions of the visitors were malicious, the quick-thinking staff activated the showroom's alarm system. The blaring sound forced the criminals to abandon their plan and flee from the scene on their motorcycles.
Eyewitness Account of the Terrifying Ordeal
A customer who was present inside the showroom during the incident described the moments of fear. "The situation was terrifying," the customer said. "As soon as they pulled out guns, we raised our hands in fear. Then the alarm rang and they ran away." This account highlights how the armed gang had already escalated the threat level before the alarm saved the day.
Police Launch Manhunt
Following the failed robbery attempt, the Bokaro police have swung into action. Authorities are meticulously scanning the footage captured by the CCTV cameras installed both inside the jewellery showroom and in the surrounding neighbourhood areas to identify the criminals.
Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh confirmed that the investigation is progressing swiftly. "Checking has been intensified. Raids are under way to nab the criminals," SP Singh said. The police are pursuing all leads to track down the seven accused involved in this brazen crime.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local business community in Bokaro, raising concerns about security. It also underscores the importance of staff vigilance and robust security protocols, which successfully prevented a major crime.
