Biharsharif: The state vigilance bureau on Saturday caught a police sub-inspector posted at Rajgir police station in Nalanda district red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000.
The accused, identified as Devkant Kumar, was taken into custody following a planned trap operation, triggering unease within the police department.
Complaint and Verification
According to vigilance officials, the sub-inspector had allegedly demanded money from a complainant in return for extending undue help in a police case. Distressed by the demand, the victim approached the Vigilance Bureau office in Patna and lodged a formal complaint.
After conducting verification, officials established that the allegations were genuine and that the officer was demanding a bribe. Based on the confirmation, a special vigilance team was constituted to lay a trap.
Trap Operation and Arrest
As per the plan, the complainant met the sub-inspector and handed over Rs 90,000 in marked currency notes. The vigilance team, deployed in plain clothes, immediately intervened and caught the officer while accepting the cash. A chemical test was conducted on the spot, during which the accused’s hands turned pink, confirming contact with the tainted money.
Following his arrest, Devkant Kumar was taken to Patna, where he will be produced before a court for further legal proceedings. Vigilance officials said the probe would continue.
