Two Men Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape in Sagar Forest, Bhopal

The traumatic event unfolded on January 20 when the survivor, who is in her early twenties, visited the forest area with a friend. Police officials revealed that the two accused individuals, identified as Ranu alias Jaigopal Gaur (27) and Sundar Bhagwan Das (26), spotted the couple and immediately intercepted them.
According to the police account, the perpetrators initially overpowered the woman's companion, subjected him to physical assault, and forced him to flee the scene. With the male friend out of the way, they then took the survivor deeper into the forest where they took turns raping her.
Survivor's Escape and Police Response
Following the assault, the woman managed to reach a nearby road where she raised an alarm. Alerted by her cries for help, local residents quickly notified the police, setting in motion an immediate response from law enforcement.
The officer in charge of the local police station provided additional details, stating, "The survivor had gone to the forested area with her friend when the two accused saw them. These individuals are residents of a small habitation near the forests. They apprehended both the survivor and her companion, slapped and overpowered the male friend, sent him away, and then took turns raping the woman."
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Police registered a case on the same night as the incident, January 20, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities launched an intensive manhunt for the accused, successfully apprehending both suspects. The arrested individuals were produced before the court on Friday, marking a swift legal response to the crime.
Officials confirmed that the survivor underwent a medical examination as per standard procedure, and her formal statement has been recorded. The investigation remains ongoing as police work to gather additional evidence and ensure proper legal proceedings.
