Bhopal Police Crack Down on Online Cricket Betting Operation
Police in Bhopal have successfully dismantled an online cricket betting racket following a targeted raid on a residential flat. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of running illegal gambling activities from the premises.
Raid at Ashiyana Heights Uncovers Illegal Setup
Acting on a specific tip-off received on January 13, law enforcement officials moved swiftly to investigate reports of illicit online betting on cricket matches. The information pointed to Flat No. 104 in the Ashiyana Heights complex as the center of these activities.
A police team, armed with a valid search warrant, arrived at the location to conduct a thorough inspection. Upon reaching the flat, officers were greeted by a man who introduced himself as Amit Suhane. He opened the door, allowing the authorities to proceed with their search.
Seizure of Electronic Devices and Cash
During the raid, police discovered two individuals inside the flat. Both were actively engaged in operating mobile phones and laptops at the time of the intervention. A detailed search of the premises yielded a significant haul of electronic equipment and other items.
Officers confiscated a total of 16 mobile phones from various manufacturers. They also seized three laptops and multiple SIM cards. In addition to the electronic devices, a substantial amount of cash was recovered from the scene.
The combined value of all seized items, including the cash, is estimated to be approximately Rs 5 lakh. This seizure underscores the scale of the illegal operation that was being run from the residential flat.
Arrests Made and Ongoing Investigation
The two individuals apprehended during the raid have been identified as bookies hailing from Sagar and Jabalpur. They were taken into custody and are now facing legal proceedings for their involvement in the online betting racket.
Police authorities have confirmed that the duo was directly involved in managing and facilitating illegal bets on cricket matches through digital platforms. Their arrest marks a significant step in curbing such unlawful activities in the region.
