Bengaluru: Two Killed in Cunningham Road Wrong-Way Drunk Driving Accident
A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday in Bengaluru, where two individuals lost their lives in a horrific accident caused by alleged drunk driving and wrong-way vehicle operation. The collision occurred on the one-way Cunningham Road, resulting in fatal consequences for the victims.

According to police reports and a formal complaint filed by a relative of one of the deceased, the accident took place around 2 a.m. in front of the Waqf Board Cross. The driver, identified as Aiyappa AC, aged 29, was operating his car in the wrong direction on the one-way street. He allegedly collided head-on with a scooter carrying two people.
The victims have been named as Zubair Ahmed, 42, a resident of Rehmat Nagar in RT Nagar, and his employee Abdul Musaveer Pasha, 16, from Frazer Town. At the time of the accident, Ahmed was in the process of dropping Pasha off at his home when their journey was abruptly and tragically cut short.
Allegations of Rash and Negligent Driving
In the complaint submitted by Umar Iqbal, a relative of Zubair Ahmed, it was stated that Aiyappa was driving in a rash and negligent manner while under the influence of alcohol. The impact of the collision was severe, with the car dragging the scooter and its riders for approximately 100 meters before ramming into the pavement and crashing into a pole, finally coming to a halt.
Both Ahmed and Pasha sustained critical injuries in the incident. Bystanders at the scene promptly called for an ambulance, and the injured were rushed to the nearby Bowring Hospital. Unfortunately, upon arrival, medical professionals declared both victims brought dead, highlighting the severity of the crash.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
A senior police officer provided additional context, revealing that Aiyappa, a native of Kodagu, is involved in the business of supplying herbal coffee powder. In contrast, Zubair Ahmed operated a lathe workshop near KR Market. During initial interrogation, Aiyappa claimed that heavy rain impaired his visibility, causing him to fail to notice the scooter.
To verify the allegations of intoxication, authorities have collected blood samples from Aiyappa for medical testing. This analysis aims to confirm whether he was under the influence of alcohol or any other substances at the time of the accident. A formal case has been registered against Aiyappa at the High Grounds traffic police station, marking the beginning of legal proceedings.
