Bengaluru Thief Files Police Complaint After Being Caught Stealing Electrical Equipment

In a plot twist that seems straight out of a slapstick crime drama, a thief in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint after being caught red-handed while stealing electrical equipment from an independent house. The incident, which unfolded in the Sampigehalli area in the north-eastern part of the city, highlights a bizarre turn of events where the perpetrator became the complainant.

The Unusual Complaint by the Thief

Azgar Khan, a 24-year-old auto driver, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that unidentified persons assaulted him on the head after he was caught in the act of theft. According to Khan, the incident occurred on the night of January 31, when he and his two associates targeted an independent house in Sampigehalli.

Police investigations revealed that Khan was addicted to alcohol and cigarettes, and his earnings from driving an auto were insufficient to fund these vices. To meet his expenses, Khan admitted to occasionally engaging in theft along with his associates, Razak and Shyam.

The Theft and Subsequent Attack

On that fateful night, the trio scaled the compound walls of a house located on Chokkanahalli Main Road in Sampigehalli. They began stealing electrical materials that were stored outside the premises. However, the noise alerted the occupants of the house, a couple who were inside at the time.

The couple rushed out and shouted at the thieves, expecting them to flee. Instead, in a shocking escalation, the three decided to silence the homeowners and charged at them. Khan stated in his complaint, "We attacked them, and Razak hit the man on the head with a beer bottle, injuring him. The bottle piece caused a wound on the face of the woman next to him."

As the couple shouted for help, neighbors and others in the vicinity rushed to the scene. In the chaos, Khan's associates managed to escape, but he was caught and subsequently assaulted by one of the bystanders. "One of those gathered there beat me on the head with a wooden log," Khan claimed, appealing to the police to take action against his attackers.

Police Action and Investigation

Simultaneously, the house owner filed a complaint against Khan and his two associates, accusing them of assaulting him and his wife with a beer bottle. Based on the couple's complaint, which was registered first, the police arrested auto driver Khan and his associates. All three are residents of RT Nagar in Bengaluru.

The accused have been handed over to judicial custody at Bengaluru Central Prison. DCP (north-east), Mithun Kumar GK, confirmed that the police are actively investigating the case to uncover all details and ensure justice is served.

This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of crime in urban areas and raises questions about the motivations behind such audacious acts. The police continue to probe the matter, focusing on the sequence of events and the roles of all involved parties.
