In a shocking case of betrayal and violence, Karnataka police have arrested three men, including the victim's own boyfriend, for allegedly blackmailing and gang-raping a college student from Bengaluru. The arrests were made on Thursday in Magadi, located in the Bengaluru South district.
The Anatomy of a Betrayal: From Love to Blackmail
According to the police, the sequence of events began eight months ago when the young woman, a student in Bengaluru, met and fell in love with a 25-year-old man identified as Vikas. Their relationship took a horrific turn in September 2025. Vikas took her to his home in Magadi, roughly 70 km from the state capital, where he sexually assaulted her.
Unbeknownst to the victim, Vikas had secretly recorded the act. He later used this video as a tool for blackmail, threatening to leak it on social media if she did not comply with his demands. The police stated that this blackmail continued for weeks, with the accused exerting control over the terrified student.
The Escalation to Gang Rape
The nightmare escalated in October 2025. Exploiting his continued blackmail, Vikas summoned the victim to his home in Magadi once again. This time, he was allegedly joined by two accomplices: Prashant, aged 19, and Chetan, aged 28. The police charge that all three men raped the student one after another.
Even after this brutal assault, the blackmail did not stop. When the victim mustered the courage to refuse Vikas's further demands, he allegedly sent the intimate video directly to her on Instagram, threatening her with dire consequences. This act of intimidation finally pushed the victim to confide in her family.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The victim's family approached the Magadi police on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, and filed a formal complaint. Acting swiftly, the police tracked down and arrested all three accused by the following day, Thursday, December 18.
During the arrest, the authorities seized the mobile phones of the accused to forensically examine if the compromising video had been shared with others on social media platforms. The three men have been booked under stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including:
- Section 70 (gang rape)
- Section 71 (punishment for repeat offenders)
- Section 64 (rape)
Further investigation is currently underway to uncover all details of the case and ensure justice is served. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the grim reality of crimes committed by those in positions of trust.
