Bengaluru: The city police have arrested a hospital housekeeping staffer on charges of stabbing his friend and colleague to death after the victim abused him for hiding his mobile phone. The accused, identified as Ramu, in his late 20s, allegedly committed the crime on May 10 when the victim, Parashuram Ellappa Mangalagatti, returned from duty.
Incident Details
According to a police officer, Parashuram went for a bath, and Ramu hid his phone. When Parashuram realized it was Ramu who had hidden it, he pleaded with him to return it. However, Ramu continued to plead innocence, which made Parashuram lose his temper and abuse him. Ramu, who was under the influence of alcohol, then stabbed Parashuram with a kitchen knife and fled the scene.
Victim’s Struggle and Death
With the help of his neighbors and friends, Parashuram received initial treatment at a nearby hospital before traveling to his hometown, Hubballi. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries earlier this week. The following day, his elder brother filed a complaint against Ramu.
During interrogation, Ramu confessed to the crime, stating, “I did it as a joke and never realized the stab wound would prove fatal.” The police have taken him into custody and further investigations are underway.
This tragic incident highlights how a seemingly harmless prank can escalate into a fatal confrontation, especially when alcohol is involved. The authorities urge citizens to resolve disputes amicably and avoid such reckless behavior.
