A tragic gas cylinder explosion at a paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru on Monday evening has claimed one life and left three others injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety standards in shared living spaces across the city.
Evening Blast Triggers Panic
The explosion occurred at the Seven Hills Sai Co-Living PG around 6:30 pm on 29 December 2025. According to a senior police officer, a commercial LPG cylinder exploded in the kitchen area of the building. The force of the blast immediately sparked a fire, and thick, dense smoke quickly engulfed several parts of the premises.
Initial reports suggest the explosion was sudden and violent, causing significant damage to the kitchen and adjacent areas. The loud blast and ensuing chaos sent residents and neighbors into a state of panic, with many rushing to safety.
Casualties and Emergency Response
The explosion resulted in one person being killed on the spot. Three other individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Their current condition remains under assessment.
Emergency services, including fire tenders and police teams, were promptly dispatched to the location on receiving distress calls. Firefighters battled the flames and worked to clear the smoke, while police cordoned off the area to begin their preliminary investigation.
Investigation and Safety Concerns
Police have confirmed that the explosion originated from a commercial-grade gas cylinder used in the PG's kitchen. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the blast. Authorities are looking into potential factors such as:
- Cylinder leakage or faulty regulator
- Improper handling or storage of the gas cylinder
- Possible negligence in maintenance and safety checks
This incident highlights the critical need for stringent safety protocols, especially in co-living spaces and PGs that house a large number of people. The use of commercial cylinders in residential-style accommodations often comes under scrutiny during such accidents.
The Bengaluru police are expected to question the PG management and staff as part of their standard procedure. The focus will be on ensuring compliance with all safety regulations to prevent such devastating occurrences in the future.
