Bengaluru Tragedy: Mother Kills Teen Daughter, Then Commits Suicide in Whitefield

A devastating incident unfolded in Bengaluru's Whitefield area on Monday, where a 45-year-old homemaker allegedly smothered her minor daughter to death before taking her own life. The deceased have been identified as Suvarna Chandrashekhar and her 13-year-old daughter, Tarunya Chandrashekhar, residents of Immadihalli.

Discovery of the Tragedy

The grim discovery was made when Suvarna's husband, Chandrashekhar, repeatedly tried to contact her on her mobile phone without success. Concerned, he asked his younger brother to visit their home. Upon arriving around 11 am, the brother found no response at the door and peered through a bedroom window. Inside, he saw Suvarna hanging from a ceiling fan and Tarunya lying dead on the bed. He immediately alerted the police.

Police Investigation and Motive

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Suvarna pressed a pillow over Tarunya's face, confirming her death before hanging herself. No suicide note or messages were found on her phone. According to Chandrashekhar, Suvarna had been suffering from depression, which may have driven her to this extreme act.

A senior police officer stated, "Chandrashekhar reported that Suvarna often expressed worry about who would care for Tarunya if she died. She was also anxious about Chandrashekhar's heart-related health issues."

Family Background and Last Moments

Chandrashekhar works as a computer operator at a private hospital near ITPL, while Tarunya was a Class VII student at a private school. On the night of the incident, the family had dinner at a restaurant after watching a cricket match at home. Suvarna told her husband she was tired and would not prepare breakfast the next day. Chandrashekhar slept in a separate bedroom, had breakfast outside, and left for work, unaware of the impending tragedy.
