Bengaluru MLA BA Basavaraj Remanded in Seven-Day Police Custody in Murder Case
In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the murder of rowdy-sheeter Biklu Shiva, KR Pura MLA BA Basavaraj has been remanded in seven days of police custody. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Basavaraj, and he was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) at a residence in Koramangala on Sunday afternoon.
Medical Fitness Confirmed Before Custody
Basavaraj was discharged from Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research prior to the court proceedings. According to special public prosecutor Ashok Nayak, doctors conducted multiple tests, and the detailed report along with the discharge summary confirmed that Basavaraj's condition is normal and he is medically fit. This report was handed over to CID officials and presented before the magistrate, clearing the way for custodial interrogation.
Court Proceedings and Custody Arguments
The CID produced Basavaraj around 12:30 PM, and during arguments in open court, the SPP sought custodial interrogation, with the CID requesting nine days of custody. However, Basavaraj's counsel objected to this request. After hearing both sides, the magistrate remanded him in seven days of police custody and directed CID officials to produce him before the court by 1 PM on February 21.
In addition, Basavaraj's advocate requested that he be allowed the food prescribed by doctors. The magistrate issued directions to the CID accordingly, noting that if he seeks home-cooked food, a separate application must be filed.
Background and Previous Arrests
Earlier, the CID had produced Basavaraj and advocate Ajit separately before the court on Friday. At that time, his counsel informed the court that Basavaraj had heart-related issues, leading the court to direct the CID to provide medical assistance and shift him to Jayadeva Hospital. The CID had previously arrested 18 people in connection with Shiva's murder. With the arrests of Basavaraj and Ajit, the total number of arrests in this case has now risen to 20, marking a crucial step in the investigation.
This case continues to unfold as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the murder, with Basavaraj's custody expected to provide further insights into the alleged involvement and connections in this high-profile incident.
