Bengaluru Police Nab Relative in Elaborate Gold Theft Case, Recover Valuables Worth Rs 15 Lakh
In a significant breakthrough, the Amruthahalli police in Bengaluru have successfully apprehended a 25-year-old man in connection with a sophisticated house theft that occurred in the Kempapura area. The authorities have managed to recover approximately 100 grams of gold jewellery, with an estimated market value of around Rs 15 lakh, bringing relief to the victim and showcasing effective law enforcement action.
Details of the Accused and the Crime
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Velpucharla Obul Reddy, a resident of Kempapura who works as a labourer. Interestingly, Reddy is a relative of the complainant, Sumathi, who works as a baby caretaker and lives with her school-going children in the same locality. This familial connection adds a layer of betrayal to the criminal act, highlighting how trust was exploited for personal gain.
According to the official complaint filed on March 14, Sumathi discovered on the morning of March 11 that her precious gold ornaments, which were securely stored in a cupboard, had gone missing. She informed the police that she routinely locks her house before heading to work and places the key in a shoe rack for safekeeping, a practice that unfortunately became a vulnerability in this case.
Modus Operandi: A Clever Ruse Involving a Child
Police investigations revealed a cunning strategy employed by the accused. It was found that Reddy had visited Sumathi's house at a time when her son was present. In a calculated move, he allegedly sent the child out to purchase gobi manchurian, a popular street food item, creating a brief window of opportunity. During this period, Reddy accessed the house, located the key from the shoe rack, and made off with the gold ornaments, demonstrating premeditation and deceit.
Following the theft, Reddy proceeded to sell the stolen gold at various jewellery shops located in Chickpete and Ramamurthynagar, areas known for their bustling commercial activity. This attempt to liquidate the valuables quickly was part of his plan to evade detection and profit from the crime.
Swift Police Action and Recovery
The Amruthahalli police acted promptly upon receiving the complaint, leading to the arrest of Velpucharla Obul Reddy on March 15. Their diligent efforts resulted in the recovery of the entire 100 grams of gold from the jewellers where the items had been sold. This recovery not only restores the stolen property to the victim but also serves as a deterrent to similar criminal activities in the region.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and secure practices in residential safety, especially in urban settings like Bengaluru. It also highlights the effectiveness of police work in tackling property crimes, ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice and stolen assets are returned to their rightful owners.
