Bengaluru IPS Officer Faces Multiple Complaints Over Viral Sleaze Videos
Social activist Rajshekar Mulali has filed formal complaints with both state and central authorities. He demands immediate action against senior IPS officer DGP Ramachandra Rao. The controversy erupted after sleaze videos allegedly involving Rao went viral online.
Activist Writes to PMO Seeking Legal Action
Rajshekar Mulali, who heads the Ballari-based Anna Foundation, called the video content disgraceful. He wrote directly to the Department of Personnel and Training and the Prime Minister's Office on Monday. In his letters, Mulali seeks legal proceedings against Rao for multiple alleged violations.
The activist accuses Rao of misusing his power and public office. He specifically mentions disrespect shown toward national and state symbols. Mulali emphasizes that the officer appears in uniform throughout the controversial footage.
"It does not matter whether this incident happened during his Belagavi posting or elsewhere," Mulali stated while sharing details of his PMO complaint. "The video clearly shows his office setting and his uniform. If the state government fails to act promptly, I will approach the courts."
Mulali plans to request forensic verification of both video and audio files through laboratory testing. He alleges that Rao engaged in inappropriate intimate conversation with a woman while wearing his police uniform. This allegedly occurred in front of the national flag, constituting a serious conduct code violation.
Additional Complaints and Emerging Audio Clips
The Bengaluru-based advocate has also submitted complaints to the Karnataka Chief Minister and Chief Justice. He requests a thorough investigation into the alleged incident. Meanwhile, two audio clips surfaced on social media Monday evening, adding complexity to the controversy.
These audio recordings reportedly feature conversations between a police officer and a woman. Their authenticity remains unverified independently. The circulation of these clips alongside the videos has intensified political and public reactions.
Rao has dismissed all allegations against him. He maintains that the material is completely fabricated. The officer claims this represents a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation. The state government has acknowledged the situation, promising to examine recording authenticity as part of any formal inquiry.
Rao's History with Controversies
Ramachandra Rao is no stranger to public debates during his police career. His first major controversy dates back to 2014 when he served as Inspector General of Police for the southern range. Rao's name emerged in a high-profile money seizure case involving a Kerala-based jeweler.
The jeweler alleged that police personnel misappropriated Rs 2 crore while intercepting cash transported to Kerala. However, official records showed only Rs 20 lakh seized. When the government ordered a CID probe, investigators arrested Rao's gunman on dacoity charges related to the case.
This development increased scrutiny of Rao's potential involvement, though he consistently denied any wrongdoing. More recently, in March 2025, Rao found himself embroiled in another controversy. This followed the arrest of his stepdaughter, Kannada actress Ranya Rao, by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence.
The DRI charged her with smuggling 14.2 kilograms of gold from Dubai. Subsequently, allegations surfaced accusing Rao of misusing his official position. He was accused of facilitating airport protocol services for his stepdaughter, claims he has firmly denied.
